[GDM 3.2.1] Today I've polished some scripts!!

Yeah Now ppa:tista/gdm-testing PPA is under heavy tests... :)

Today I've added some installation scripts for it. You want to know what happens?

From the initial release, we've experienced ugly issue: Bevause of Ubuntu's "VT" must be always "7" as graphical login, But gdm 3.2.x had ignored that actually... X(

Some reasons exists behind this fact... 1st is the differences between Ubuntu and Fedora. Yeah well known, Fedora usually run tty1 as graphical environments, on the other hand, Ubuntu needs "tty7" for any display manager to show greeter. 2nd is what caused in plymouth configurations, especially detection of display manager. Today Ubuntu didn't concern about any supports for gdm 3.2 or higher since they already have another DM "LightDM" you know... So plymouth configurations goes along with it naturally right? But it's really messing us!! In fact, /etc/init/plymouth.conf never have any detection for gdm.

So today I've tried to update some installation scripts to fix those issues above... :)
This release could have custom plymouth.conf to be able to replace original plymouth's one. Installer would rename the stock file to back-up (named "plymouth.conf.dpkg-dvrt"), Then copy my custom one to /etc/init automatically...
And then, this scripts could add new line to /etc/gdm/custom.conf like "FirstVT=7" to set highest  priority for detection VT console tty7...

Finally that combination would help your issue like "splash zombie" and "strange VT"... hehehe... :P

Now I'm testing this change on Precise to check out whether it happens side-effect critical bugs "show-stopper" or not...

Anyway the Fight still goes now and forever?!

[GMA500] Now I reboot to fight against Poulsbo again... :)

From a couple of days ago, I've been re-thinking to pull Poulsbo machines up to the latest Ubuntu user experiences... And so now I'm using Oneiric with EMGD 1.8 to check out what's happened in a meantime that I've been left far from GMA500 Team's works...

Even though still EMGD 1.8 didn't get any performance improvements from that past releases, Already 1.10 seemed to be released. Oh yeah good news... ;)

Then in other hands, we know finally PSB-GFX got "out of the box" in kernel 3.3 or higher with stable. I knew that driver could never be handled perfectly on 3.2 or lower such as Oneiric kernel.. Yeah too bad!

Finally Fedora17 would have so much interesting points for poor graphic drivers. You would be able to use Gnome-Shell with "llvmpipe" swrast of Mesa!! If so, we might run it on psb-gfx without any confused proprietary OpenGL libraries.

The new story had begun?!

[Selene] 3.3.6 Is Here Standing On The Edge... So What Next?

Been a while guys.

Today I've decided to start scratching all of codes for selene theme to polish it more and more... :)
Yeah already known, elementary team didn't concern gtk 3.4 yet, So I have no choice to continue using that "code base" for selene...

Every time we have to break through the walls to see the next over there, right?

[VAIO Z] A Nice Trick For DMRaid...

If remembered well, from Precise Beta1, the evil was inside of Precise system especially on dmraid disk-managements... X(

So in fact I had to roll-back to Oneiric. Actually Precise couldn't handle dmraid initializations within boot sequence, you know. But today I could confirm this workaround for it:

Yeah this did a trick !! :) Wow !
Then I could run precise on Sony VAIO Z21 again today...

Since it has Intel RAID controller with 2 latest generation SSDs (seems like RAID0). What a amazing speed it had! Could you imagine 1 GB/s as read-out on a laptop ?!

It's crazy, you know... Yep, it's the only "Air" to be able to beat any other hi-end desktops built like a tank. :)

If you guys want anything for perfoemance on linux mobile, let's do "Z"...

About My Audio Life...

I gotta talk about my "Audio Life". :)

Yeah I love music. Usually people listens music in a lot of ways, in a car, in a bedroom, on a walk, or a living... I also do, especially mine seems "Home Audio".

That picture shows my favorite Fully-Digital-Amp "Millennium MK III" by TacT audio in my house. You know it's very expensive (around over a 10000 dollars ?!) and it employs the world's finest true digital amplifier technology called "Equi-BIT". Yep, this amp only accepts "Digital Inputs" instead of any "Analogue Inputs". So we could say it "Power DAC" exactly. :P

For over 15 years, I've been a "Stereophile" enjoying with such too expensive (mostly Hi-End? OK. laugh me up! ) equipments to playback lots of music... I surely love Linux programming and hacking, then also I really love to listen a music! Pops, Rocks, Classics, Jazz, Operas,  Countries, Bossa, and any style of music...

Guys had any stuff to enhance your own life? :)

[GDM] Today I started to open these packages for Oneiric !! :)

Been a while guys... :)

Yeah exactly I've been busy on my work, so I couldn't update this blog for a while...

Then today I've uploaded gdm 3.2.1 packages to my ppa for oneiric. Why it took very long time? OK. Though I surely knew everyone usually runs oneiric for Ubuntu desktop, But please understand my sight that I always wanna focus to bleeding edge experiences and daily build developments in Ubuntu to see "Where the Ubuntu devs gonna see and go in the future... ;)

Basically, still gdm 3.2.1 needs "tons of" patches to run on Ubuntu. Yeah damned! X( And some more badly news I've experienced to be changed the package name and dependencies to build gdm packages. These didn't run as same as Fedora's one yet, But mostly a lot of featurs had been improved in this release I hope...

1st, I've patched and patched for "dconf" basements for gdm for a long time. Even if gdm might deny some customizable stuff, We could change them a bit via gsettings on terminal.

2nd, Between Ubuntu and Fedora, Which the most remarkable thing to run display-manager? Yeah I suppose it's "VT console managements". From a couple of days ago, I've been testing some tricks to run gdm on VT-7 (you know this as default graphical VT in Ubuntu). So I could suggest this workaround:

  1. Edit this file like this: gksudo gedit /etc/gdm/custom.conf
  2. Add the new line like this: FirstVT=7
  3. Save and exit editors and reboot now.
Then you might be able to fix the VT as gdm starting login console instead of VT8 which could be set by gdm's automatic VT detection codes.

3rd, In policy-kit on Ubuntu, especially on Precise Pangolin, today I've found that the Ubuntu devs were going to purge some packages to be needed to build gdm 3.2.1... Oh nooo!! So I might have to check and fix some dependencies and codes for precise. Now still I haven't any clue to solve the password managements on Gnome session, anyway I have some ideas to do...

4th, I really hope that gdm could change its gdm-greeter's theming automatically along with gnome-tweak-tool by setting "shell-theme". Since gdm-greeter would be customized via "gdm.css" stylesheet within gnome-shell theme directory. Today gdm only watch the /usr/share/gnome-shell/theme directory without any customizable option. So I might hack this routine to enjoy gdm theming for every users especially for "light users"...

Well I would keep my eyes open for gdm packaging for a while. :)
